ObrazekThis year Prague welcomed the Internetional Prague Rainbow Spring tournament for the 11th time. Last year we thought that we had already reached our limith with 300 participants (to compare: the first Eurogames organized in 1992 in The Hague were also attended by some 300 sportsmen). But then last year, Czech gay and lesbian sportsmen won a record number of 22 medals in Copenhagen at OutGames 2009, and we were approached by our friends from other sports teams to bring more sports under the Prague Rainbow Spring tournament.

In summer 2009 the tournament became to grow, and volleyball and table tennis were joined by three more sports – badminton, squash and swimming. We opened the tournament registration on 1 December 2009 and we were amazed by the flood of interest: within one month all the volleyball and badminton slots had sold out, and the other sports were also already almost filled. When we closed the registration in March 2010 we could not believe our eyes: 36 volleyball teams, 140 badminton players, 50 squash players, 50 table-tennis players and almost 40 swimmers! Prague Rainbow Spring 2010 hosted over 500 sportsmen and sportswomen from 18 European countries.

We are also very happy to see that our event receives the support of the Czech government every year: this year the tournament was organized under the auspices of the Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Michael Kocáb. We very much appreciate this support and would like to thank Mr. Kocáb once again.

For those who had already arrived in Prague on Thursday, we held a warm-up party at Friends club. On Friday we started tournament registration at Lokál-restaurant. We chose a traditional Czech restaurant so that everybody could try out some heavy-calorie meals before the tournament started – and measured by the volume of goulash, cheese, Pilsen beer and Becherovka consumed on that evening, it was a good choice.
ObrazekSaturday was the S(port) Day. The tournament went by without any hitches, even the weather was on our side and the sun shined the whole day... Check out the photo section of our site to soak the tournament atmosphere or send us your own photos!
But tournaments are not only about sport but also about having fun, as the Saturday evening Rainbow Party proved :-) This year we held the party at music club Občanská Plovárna – the midnight Pratety Show included a drag show by The Screamers, a live performance of our friend and singer Zuzka Nová, and a dance exhibition by the OutGames 2009 latin dance winners Milan and David. We hope that everybody found his/her way back to the hotel or apartment in the early morning hours when the party ended...
ObrazekThe final Sunday brunch took place at Café Adria downtown Prague. We talked, took photos, exchanged phone numbers, enjoyed the buffet brunch and the best of us received a medal.
Thank you for coming to Prague and for creating a great tournament atmosphere. In case you enjoyed your stay in Prague so much (and we hope you did), mark your calendar now with the dates for our tournament next year – the 12th Prague Rainbow Spring (6th – 8th May 2011). See you soon!
Yours,
 Pratety Praha and Aquamen
